FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I get a product demo?
Of course. Seeing is believing!
We constantly organize interactive online demos. That means you get access to a platform where you can select a box or inlay model, enter the dimension you want and press the start button. Through a webcam we'll show you all the handling on the Slimbox you controlled, but which is standing in our office.
Just get in touch with us, and we'll set it all up for you.
Can't wait till then? Check out the Slimbox in action.
Can the Slimbox be used in the office?
Yes. It was specifically designed to fit both an office and a production environment. Because it has a standard power plug, you do not need to have special equipment. Also, everything is built-in; from watercooling over air-pressure to smoke-filtering.
The machine does produce some decibels but only when operating at full power. In an office, the printer or mailing room would be the perfect spot.
What is Dimensional Weight?
Dimensional weight, also known as volumetric weight or dim weight, is a pricing technique for commercial freight transport (including courier and postal services), which uses an estimated weight that is calculated from the length, width and height of a package.
Shipping costs have historically been calculated on the basis of gross weight in kilograms or pounds. Lightweight, low-density packages become unprofitable for freight carriers due to the amount of space they take up in the truck/aircraft/ship in proportion to their actual weight.
The concept of dimensional weight has been adopted by the transportation industry worldwide as a uniform means of establishing a minimum charge for the cubic space a package occupies.
Every courier or postal service has their own way of determining this weight. More information can be found on the
What does a Slimbox do?
A Slimbox can cut drawings out of corrugated cardboard. It was designed to focus on the creation of boxes and inlays for anyone who needs right sized packaging.
The controlling is so easy, that anyone can do it. Just select the model you like, enter the dimensions you need and press start.
Thanks to its specifications, the machine can create both small and large boxes.
In addition, the machine can also work with your own drawings so you can cut out just about any shape or form. In other words, the Slimbox can also be used for your creative projects.

Is the Slimbox a service?
No. Slimbox is a machine that can be bought or rented by any organization for them to make their own boxes and inlays.
I don't own a Slimbox, can I make a box somewhere?
Yes. Although the Slimbox is only sold to companies, there are also standing in public locations like post offices, copy shops, pickup/drop-off points (PUDO's), supermarkets, libraries, ...
If you know a place that should have one, just tell them about us. We'd be happy to help!
Who invented the Slimbox?
Slimbox is an invention by Filip, Kristof and their father Rik Roose. Together, they founded the company Fit Things.
What is the largest box that I can make?
Well that depends on your imagination.
The width of the Slimbox is 101.6 cm / 40 inches. The length is well... endless. If you feed your Slimbox with a corrugated sheet of 100 x 150 cm, it can cut a box with dimensions of 35 cm x 35 cm x 60 cm.
But there is also a way to combine a number of different sheets... And then, the possibilities are endless.
Does the Slimbox require a maintenance?
Yes, however little. It is a machine and by standard all machines need some kind of maintenance.
The Slimbox was specifically designed to keep maintenance to a strict minimum. On average once a year, done by a technician.
Besides the annual maintenance, since cutting happens with a laser, there are filters for the odor and smoke. Depending on the type of filter and the amount of boxes made, they need to be replaced one in a while. Doing that is very easy.
How about fire safety?
Slimbox has been subjected to a rigorous fire risk assessment. The machine is extremely safe as long as the user respects the rules described in the manual. However, if you want to be absolutely sure that nothing can go wrong, it is possible to install an optional stand-alone fire extinguisher. This means that even when the machine is not connected to any power outlet, it would still extinguish a fire.
How long does it take to cut a box?
That is hard to say, since it depends on a number of variables:
- The type of corrugated you use (not only the thickness)
- The size of the overall box. If our cutter needs to travel longer distances, it takes longer.
- The type (model) of box you are making. Some have only a few simple lines, others are more complex. Which means the laser needs to travel longer distances.
In a minute you can already have a good size standard box.

Is the Slimbox safe?
Yes. We have not only followed all the CE safety regulations, we have also added extra safety sensors and solutions.
For instance, the tables on the side will fold when too much pressure is applied. As a result, the machine does not tip over.
Parental supervision is required for children under 18.
